Key Terms

1 & 1 hosting- The best company on the internet that provides space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity.  All inclusive, selling domains and hosting packages.

 

Blog- an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page.

          

Capitalize- to take advantage of; turn something to one's advantage

 

Code- the symbolic arrangement of statements or instructions in a computer program in which letters, digits, etc. are represented as binary numbers; the set of instructions in such a program

          

Consistency- a harmonious uniformity or agreement among things or parts

 

Content- something that is to be expressed through some medium, as speech, writing, or any of various arts

          

Corporation- an association of individuals, created by law or under authority of law, having a continuous existence independent of the existences of its members, and powers and liabilities distinct from those of its members

 

Conversion Rate- The ratio of orders to site visits. For example, if 100 people visit your site and 10 people place orders, you conversion rate is 10%.

 

Dividend- a sum of money paid to shareholders of a corporation out of earnings

 

Domain Name- a name owned by a person or organization and consisting of an alphabetical or alphanumeric sequence followed by a suffix indicating the top-level domain: used as an Internet address to identify the location of particular Web pages (www.  Your domain name.  com, org, net, ect.)

 

eBay- an online auction and shopping website in which people and businesses buy and sell goods and services worldwide

 

E-Book- a book published in electronic format; downloaded and read using a computer.

          

Ecommerce- consists of the buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks

 

EIN- Employer Identification Number; used by the IRS to identify your business accounts.

          

Entity- considered as distinct, independent, or self-contained

          

Entrepreneur- A person who organizes, operates, and assumes the risk for a business venture

Internet Forum- is a web application for holding discussions and posting user generated content.

          

Hosting- Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center.

          

Innovation- the act of innovating; introduction of new things or methods

 

Internet- a vast computer network linking smaller computer networks worldwide. The Internet includes commercial, educational, governmental, and other networks, all of which use the same set of communications protocols

          

Market- a body of existing or potential buyers for specific goods or services

          

Niche-  situation or activity specially suited to a person's interests, abilities, or nature.  A special area of demand for a product or service

 

OneSource- The most all inclusive list of wholesalers, and their specific contact information, in the world.

 

Over saturated- the condition of being full to or beyond satisfaction

 

Page ranking- how high you website is in a search engines ranking; when a key word or phrase is typed in, how far is your page located.

 

PayPal- performs payment processing for online vendors, auction sites, and other corporate users, for which it charges a small fee

          

Scripts- A simple program in a utility language or an application's proprietary language

          

Server- stores all web content; every web server program operates by accepting HTTP requests from the client, and providing an HTTP response to the client

 

Shareholder- a holder or owner of shares, esp. in a company or corporation

 

Specialization- to pursue some special line of study, work, etc.; have a specialty

 

SS-4 Form- form needed to apply for an EIN; filing with the IRS

 

Success- The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted

          

Template- an electronic file with a pre designed, customized format and structure

          

Traffic- the number of visitors that come to your website during a given period of time

          

Value- An amount, as of goods, services, or money, considered to be a fair and suitable equivalent for something else; a fair price or return

          

Web design- the formation of a unique website; personal design, content, tone, color, ect.

 

Website- a connected group of pages on the World Wide Web regarded as a single entity, usually maintained by one person or organization and devoted to a single topic or several closely related topics

          

Wholesaler- The sale of goods in large quantities, as for resale by a retailer
